Sutton Carers Forum

If you have read my earlier blog entry What does a councillor do? you will have seen that Sutton councillors are each members of two Council committees and are also made a reserve member of a third committee in case another member is absent. I have been appointed as a reserve member of the Adult Social Services and Health Committee which deals with matters relating to the provision of adult social services and health functions for which the Council is responsible.
Today I attended the Sutton Carers Forum Question Time which was arranged to give local groups and individuals a chance to influence how the Care Bill and Children & Families Act are implemented in the borough. Although the meeting covered both child and adult carers I thought it would be a great opportunity to learn more about the subject and meet some of the individuals and groups involved with caring in Sutton.
The meeting was chaired by Paul Burstow MP, who has a lot of experience in this subject, and the panel answering the questions comprised the Strategic Director of Adult Social Services, Housing and Health, the Strategic Director of Children, Young People and Learning Directorate, the Director of Policy and Research from the Carers Trust and representatives from Sutton Clinical Commissioning Group.
The meeting was very well attended and it was good to see that Sutton Council has such a good working relationship with local charities and other organisations.
