The arts are dead, long live the arts

For many years Sutton Arts Council has been using an annual grant from the London Borough of Sutton to support and promote the arts within the Borough. Last night it held its final AGM and at the same time the first AGM of its replacement, Arts Network Sutton, took place. The meeting was Chaired by the Mayor of Sutton who is President of both organisations.

I was there mainly due to my role as Organiser of Cheam Charter Fair but due to the close links Sutton Council has with both organisations it was also useful to attend as a councillor. The meeting was very well attended by individual arts practitioners and representatives of local arts organisations. The number, diversity and enthusiasm of those present is an encouraging sign for the future of the new organisation.

If you  – whatever your age – have an interest in any form of art I suggest you visit the new Arts Network Sutton web site and join one of the three categories available. Network membership is free so you have nothing to lose, and maybe a lot to gain!
